The short version

China Lens Guide is a content site. You can read everything without creating an account or handing over personal information. The only personal data we ever ask for is an email address, and only if you choose to subscribe to our newsletter. We do not sell personal data. This page explains the details in plain English.

Newsletter emails

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address for one purpose: sending you updates from China Lens Guide. We do not use it for anything else, and we do not share it with third parties for their marketing.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, and we will stop emailing you.

Server logs and analytics

Like almost every website, the infrastructure that hosts this site keeps standard server logs — things like IP address, browser type, and which pages were requested. These logs exist to keep the site running, secure, and fast.

We look at aggregated, non-identifying statistics (such as which guides are read most) to decide what to write and update. We do not build individual profiles of readers.

Cookies

We keep cookies to a minimum. You do not need to accept any cookies to read our guides, and we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

No accounts, no sale of data

There are no user accounts on China Lens Guide — no registration, no passwords, no profiles. We simply have very little of your data, and what little we have (a newsletter email, if you gave us one) we do not sell or rent to anyone.

Our guides link to third-party websites, apps, and services (for example VPN providers, booking sites, or official government pages). Once you leave China Lens Guide, this policy no longer applies — those sites have their own privacy practices, and we encourage you to review them.

Changes to this policy

If our data practices change, we will update this page and the effective date at the top. Meaningful changes will be described here in the same plain language.
